Football Season

It’s football season! I know that some of you could care less. I know some are die-hard fans with blood-oath allegiance to their team. I know that some have been injured while playing the sport and have felt left behind.

My confession is that I love football. I played for a few years and now blame my memory loss on the concussions I incurred while playing…but I still love the sport. I believe it taught me some good life skills and I have one life-motto that comes from football…”Don’t believe the hype, you have to do the work!”

There are others, more knowledgeable than I, who have words of wisdom to share from the sport.

Football is like life: It requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority. – Vince Lombardi

Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it. – Lou Holtz

People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society. – Vince Lombardi

The game of life is a lot like football. You have to tackle your problems, block your fears, and score your points when you get the opportunity. – Lewis Grizzard

In life, as in football, you won’t go far unless you know where the goalposts are. – Arnold H. Glasow

In football, like in life, you must learn to play within the rules of the game. – Hayden Fry
